My association with smooth coats began in 1989 when I purchased my first pet chihuahua from Dorothy Johnston, my neighbour in Hamilton, New Zealand. I was then introduced to Shona Doecke of Alvarez Kennels. From her I purchased several smooth coats, and one long coat CH. Alvarez Golden Bandit who was a top winning dog in his time.

I bred my first litter in 1989, which resulted in CH. Salinacruz Macho Max, my first champion.

One of the smooth coats from Shona, CH. Alvarez Final Edition, went on to win Best In Show at the Auckland Chihuahua Club championship show in 1994 under judge Phyllis Harris of Donreo Chihuahuas in Australia.

Further success came when I bred smooth coat CH. Salinacruz Snow White who took Best In Show at the Auckland Chihuahua Club championship show in 1995 under Australian judge Bill Stevenson. She went on to become my top smooth coat bitch, winning my first ever Best In Show at the Heretaunga Plains Toy Dog championship show in the 90's. Other In Show wins followed, as well as a Best Of Group at an all breeds championship show, and best bitch at the NZKC National Dog Show three years in a row.

I then purchased Peejaymini Royal Razmtaz from Peter Minney in Australia. "Raz" won several Best of Groups and had three consecutive Best Of Breed wins at the NZKC National Dog Show.

The combination of Raz and Snow White produced my next Best Of Group winner CH. Salinacruz Suzy Wong, who won this prestigious award at the NZKC National Dog Show of 1998.

Also in 1998, I imported a long coat from the UK, Flickan Flame Sprite, who became a New Zealand champion, and won Best Of Breed at the NZKC National Dog Show that same year.

I exported two bitches to Phillip Liebenberg in South Africa, one of which went on to become one of that country's top winning chihuahuas at the time.

In the late 1990s I purchased an English bitch CH. Arrendene Razzle Dazzle, who I mated to Raz to produce AUST and NZ CH. Salinacruz Superman. I titled him in New Zealand before sending him to Australia. He went on to become one of the top show dogs in Australia, winning Runner-Up Of Group at the Sydney Royal of 2003. I then imported one of his progeny, AUST CH./NZ GR CH. K Finch Only T Best, aka "Jacko", who took my show career to new heights, becoming New Zealand's first and only grand champion chihuahua. (Refer to the "Jacko" page for details of this amazing dog's career.)

I have bred and exported two bitches to Mike Philip in America, both of whom have become American champions. AM/NZ CH. Salinacruz She's The Best won Best Of Breed at the NZKC National Dog show in 2004 at only eleven months of age, and AM/NZ CH. Salinacruz Drama Queen won Best In Show at the Dominion Chihuahua Club Show in Christchurch in 2008.

I exported a dog and a bitch to Fred Veldman in South Africa. Both are now South African champions, one being a Best In Show and Best Of Group winner in 2010.

I am currently showing AM/CAN/AUST/NZ CH. Daggot's Well-Cut Tanzanite (Imp USA) out of AM/NZ CH. Salinacruz She's The Best. He has been the top winning smooth coat for 2009-2010, winning Best Of Breed at both the NZKC National Dog Show and the Sydney Royal in 2009.

Salinacruz produces quality show dogs, capable of gaining their titles anywhere in the world. We have produced dogs that have become champions in South Africa, America, Australia and over 35 New Zealand champions. Most of these are featured on our "Champions" page, and the individual dog pages list their many achievements. I hope you enjoy your look at Salinacruz, past and present.
